Understanding Your Coverage (OHIP vs. Private Insurance)

In Ontario, Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) and Acupuncture are not covered by OHIP. Instead, they are typically included in Extended Health Insurance provided by employers, schools, or private plans.

Project Names & Tax Rules (报销项目与税务要求)

  • Registered Massage Therapy (RMT): Subject to HST. Note that the HST portion is generally reimbursable by your insurance.

  • Registered Acupuncture (R.Ac): HST-Exempt.

How Much Can You Claim?

Your coverage depends on your specific insurance policy. Common structures include:

  1. Itemized Limits: Separate caps for each service (e.g., $500 for Massage, $500 for Acupuncture).

  2. Combined Balance: A total pool for all services.

  3. Per-Visit Limits: A cap on the amount reimbursed per session (e.g., a $106 limit for a 1-hour session. If covered at 80%, you receive $106 * 0.8).

Two Ways to Get Reimbursed

1. Manual Submission (Manual Claims)

You pay the full amount upfront. We provide an official receipt containing the service name, price, date, practitioner’s name, license number, and signature.

  • Pro Tip: If the practitioner is new or has changed locations, you can manually enter their license and clinic info into your insurance app.

2. Direct Billing (We do it for you!)

We submit the claim on your behalf instantly. If you are covered at 100%, you pay nothing. If not, you only pay the remaining balance.

  • Exceptions: Not all policies allow Direct Billing. Some (like certain Sun Life plans) may require customer submission, or they may pay the patient directly instead of the clinic.

Important Notes (特别提醒)

  • Proof of Payment: Some providers (like GSC) may require a copy of your credit card receipt alongside the clinic receipt.

  • Doctor’s Referral (Medical Note): Many student plans and certain strict policies require a Doctor’s Note for the first claim of the year. This note is usually valid for one year.

Qi Gong

Qigong massage is a therapeutic bodywork technique from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that emphasizes balancing and enhancing the body’s energy flow, or qi, through gentle movements and acupressure. It aims to relieve pain and improve circulation by unblocking energy pathways, making it especially beneficial for those with pain caused by poor circulation or energy stagnation.

It works similar as Acupuncture but without needles.
